WITH 1001 CANDLES

SOMEWHERE FESTIVAL - 14TH SEPTEMBER 2019

JasonGuitar.jpeg

SOMEWHERE Festival, which takes up residence in Hackney Empire for 10 unique shows in September, is thrilled to announce that Spiritualized will play a special one-off acoustic performance on 14th September.

Spiritualized, who recently performed at All Points East, and are soon to appear as one of the headline acts at the End Of The Road festival, released their eighth LP, And Nothing Hurt to universal critical acclaim in September last year.

Last month tickets for Peter Doherty and Carl Barât, the first act announced on the bill, sold out fast.

Tickets for Spiritualized are available at 10:00am on Friday 19th July from www.hackneyempire.co.uk

SOMEWHERE, which launched in Tokyo in April, with performances from Phoenix, JUSTICE, Carl Barât, Friendly Fires and Basement Jaxx, brings unique performances at special venues around the world with distinctive staging and the backdrop of their trademark 1001 candles. Having already received great acclaim in Japan, this London event will be the first international appearance of SOMEWHERE, before touring classic Art Deco theatres in major cities around the world in Paris, New York, Berlin and Moscow.

Acclaim for And Nothing Hurt

“Another inspirational triumph... Standout ‘Let’s Dance’ summons a delectable carpe diem urgency.” MOJO – 4

Stars ****

“Pierce is on top form here: still damaged, still brilliant, still floating in a musical galaxy entirely of his own creation.” Q – 4 Stars ****

“Magnificent... Bursting with symphonic goodness, musical adventure and dizzying levels of intensity.” Uncut – 8/10

“Lush with reach–for–the–stars sonic majesty... An engrossing portrait of growing older gracefully.” Sunday Times (Album Of The Week)

“Music that manages to be both hazy and focused, a daydream of gospel, rock’n’roll, country and psychedelia... Beautiful and astounding.” The Guardian – 4 Stars ****

“With its mix of epic rock, free jazz, heartfelt soul and narcotic regret, this isn’t dissimilar to Spirutualized’s masterpiece Ladies And Gentleman We Are Floating In Space, which illustrates Pierce’s great achievement: creating a style that’s entirely his own then sticking with it.” The Times – 4 Stars ****

“And Nothing Hurt is the zenith of the blissed–out music he’s sought throughout his career... Beautiful from start to finish... A late–period classic.” Long Live Vinyl – 9/10

“Epic... His best album in more than 15 years.” Record Collector – 4 Stars ****

“An obsessively tended circuit of of country–rock ballads, gospel choirs, wall–of–sound production and fiery

psychedelic maelstroms.” Financial Times – 4 Stars ****

“It’s hard to deny And Nothing Hurt’s sleepy golden loveliness... Listen to Pierce’s guitar solo at the end of I’m Your Man. You can’t fake that sort of emotionl truth.”

Evening Standard – 4 Stars ****

“Brimming with intensity and the analgesic hypnotism that is Pierce’s signature, And Nothing Hurt would make a suitably majestic final Spiritualized album.” The i – 4 Stars ****

“An album that bottles all his band’s signature ingredients – mesmerising space rock infused with gospel and a hint of rave.” The Sun – 4 Stars ****

“A grand statement that sweeps through Harry Nilsson and Lambchop to find big rock and pastoral peace in the American epic.” Monocle

“Majestic, wondrous, blissful...” Classic Rock – 9/10

“Sensational... An album that reaffirms his unique and inimitable talent.” DIY – 4 Stars ****

“Breathtaking... And Nothing Hurt sees J Spaceman playing to his strengths as a songwriter, it’s symphonic– garage cutting an epic path that recalls 2001 classic Let It Come Down.”

Shindig – 4 Stars ****

“It’s clearly a work of enormous obsession, mixing rocks both garage and Kraut with righteous blues and soul, then swaddling it all in woozy washes of sound.” PROG

“It’s been 6 years since Sweet Heart Sweet Light and the world might be a horribly different place but, thankfully, J. Spaceman is still making stunning classical/gospel/blues/space–rock.” London In Stereo
